If you want a protein drink that doesn't eat a big chunk of your calories, 150 is a good line to draw. Under it, you can still get a full 30 g of protein from several bottles, which makes these some of the most efficient foods on our leaderboard. We pulled every ready-to-drink shake and drinkable yogurt we track at 150 calories or less and ranked them by grams of protein per 100 calories.

That's 11 drinks, or 6 distinct products once identical flavors are grouped. Every number comes from the brand's published nutrition info, and the top results were re-checked against full nutrition panels on 2026-10-29.

What stands out

Five bottles give you 30 g for 150 calories or less. David Protein Milkshake – Vanilla and Pure Protein Complete Protein Shake – Galactic Brownie Batter are both 30 g for 140 calories (21.4), tied for the top score among drinks and behind only a tuna pouch on the entire leaderboard. Both fairlife Nutrition Plan flavors and David Protein Milkshake – Chocolate are 30 g for 150 calories (20.0).

The top is basically a tie. The difference between 21.4 and 20.0 is 10 calories per bottle. That's real if you drink one every day, but small enough that taste, price and where you can actually buy them should decide it.

Smaller drinks, slightly lower scores. Oikos Pro Drinks are 23 g for 120 calories per bottle (19.2), and the Pro Shots are 10 g for 60 (16.7). Useful if you want less volume, but you get less protein per bottle too.

Price, where we have it. We only have a brand-site price for David so far: $4.08 a bottle at the case price shown on the leaderboard, which is $1.36 per 10 g of protein. The Vanilla was listed as out of stock when we recorded that price. The brand site also listed the Pure Protein flavor we track as "back in stock soon" when we checked its label.

Premier Protein just misses at 160 calories for 30 g (18.8). It's still an excellent number. fairlife Core Power 26g is 170 calories (15.3). For bigger bottles like Quest's 45 g milkshake and Core Power 42g, see best shakes and drinks per calorie.

What about coffee-shop drinks?

The best Starbucks protein drink we track, the Starbucks Iced Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Latte (Grande), is 200 calories for 29 g (14.5). That's a fine drink, but it isn't in this calorie range. See our Starbucks ranking.

How to use this list

Caveats

Bottle sizes differ: David lists 1 bottle (355 mL), Pure Protein 1 bottle (11 fl oz / 325 mL), fairlife 1 bottle (11.5 fl oz / 340 mL) and Oikos Pro Drink 1 bottle (207 mL). Compare the protein, not the bottle. We don't track sugar, sweeteners or lactose, which matter for a lot of people. Labels change and availability varies by store. How much protein you need is personal; ask a doctor or registered dietitian.
